On the occasion of Pentecost Sunday 2016, May 15th, we shared together another special event and that was Fr. Kevin's 10th anniversary as rector of Saint Matthew's. Being a member of the Vestry, I'd known for a while of this anniversary leading into 2016. It was not however until being in the pews this past Sunday that I realized how significant this day on the May calendar truly would be for our parish community. Prior to finding a seat, I stood in pleasant bewilderment in the parish hall as preparations were nearly set for the celebration that would follow the service; A selection of food, drink, and dessert that rivaled our largest parish events was on hand to greet everyone at the end of the service. The Sunday School children advanced from the Chapel to the downstairs classroom, to return to the service later as part of the recognition ceremony held after announcements and the peace. Of course, the photos likely do better justice over my own personal reflections, so I will simply state that watching Fr. Kevin receive the love and kindness shown by the packed audience for this occasion reminded me perhaps selfishly of what having been a part of this ten years has truly meant. So, for this parishioner looking back at ten years of worshiping, growing, and sharing with the Rev. Kevin Lloyd, I cannot thank him enough for the guidance, support, and friendship he has offered to me and countless others. Below I'm sharing again the video shown on Sunday, for me this was just one small way to recognize and to showcase Fr. Kevin in his own words. If missed on Sunday, I invite you to see it again. Thank you Kevin, for we are amazed. |
